Massage

The therapeutic effects of massage have been used for centuries in order to heal ailments and imbalances in the body.As well as easing tension, massage stimulates the circulation and lymphatic system, helping to eliminate toxins. It relaxes the body, boosts the immune system and increases vitality.  Massage is also used to combat and resolve acute and chronic injury, sports injuries, aches and pains resulting from long-term issues, poor posture or repetitive strain.

Isobel applies her clinical experience and knowledge of medical sciences to her massage practice, and aims to provide long-term home care and lifestyle strategies in addition to profound and effective body work and injury management techniques.
The Allheal practice takes an integrated approach to healthcare, and clients may be referred if appropriate for additional treatment such as acupuncture, nutritional therapy or herbal medicine.

Sports massage aims not only to manage, treat, rehabilitate and prevent sports-related injuries and issues, but also to prepare for and recover from competition, and to encourage the long-term improvement of strength, endurance and overall performance. To benefit from sports massage, it is not necessary to be a sports-performer, as the techniques of soft tissue management can help with many issues involving muscles, ligaments and tendons.

A comprehensive case history is taken, followed by postural observation and assessment before appropriate treatment is given.  Please allow 90mins for the first consultation if possible.  Diet, lifestyle, home care and rehabilitation advice may be included in the treatment as appropriate.

The aim of treatment is to establish and resolve the underlying cause of the problem as well as to relieve symptoms, a principle Isobel applies to her work both as a massage therapist and a herbalist.

Remedial deep tissue massage is a type of massage therapy that focuses on realigning deeper layers of muscles and connective tissue. This type of massage aims to resolve issues resulting from such issues as repetitive strain, poor posture, chronic pain, whiplash, falls, twisted ankles etc. It is especially helpful for chronically tense and contracted areas such as stiff neck, low back stiffness, and sore, aching shoulders.

Strokes used tend to be deeper than therapeutic massage, and are concentrated on areas of tension and pain which may cause some discomfort. Deep tissue/remedial massage can also be helpful in conditions such as fibromyalgia, migraine headaches, rheumatoid and osteo-arthritis, muscle spasm and chronic back problems including recovery from slipped disc.

Therapeutic Swedish massage is an oil-based treatment incorporating a variety of techniques designed to relax muscles, improve the circulation of blood and oxygen and release toxins from the muscles to help many issues and to shorten recovery time after muscle strain.  Swedish massage involves long, flowing strokes, often in the direction of the heart, to increase circulation and blood flow. It has a significant effect on the nervous system and is an excellent treatment for insomnia, anxiety and many stress-related conditions.
